Solutions

Several partial solutions for the Portable Environment exist. The current solutions handle only a small part of user needs and disregard other needs. They consist of the following 3 elements:
  1. Remote Desktop Access
  2. Mobile Computers
  3. HTML2\AJAX
Each element has its pros and cons and has overlapping handling with the other.

Basic Definitions:

Remote Desktop Access - the ability to log onto a network from a remote location. Generally, this implies a computer, a modem and some remote access software in order to connect to the network. Whereas remote control refers to taking control of another computer, remote access means that the remote computer actually becomes a full-fledged host on the network. Remote access software dials into the network server directly. The only difference between a remote host and workstations that are connected directly to the network is slower data transfer speeds.

Portable Computer - A portable computer is a computer that is small enough to carry. Portable computers include notebook and subnotebook computers, hand-held computers, palmtops, and PDAs.

HTML2/AJAX - Asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX for short) is the method used to allow a web page to retrieve new information from the web server without having to download a whole new page. This gives users the experience of a local application, which can be used to access bookmarks, email, instant messaging applications and more.

AppOnKey™ brings you a new platform that combines the abilities of all of these elements' abilities into a unique and innovative platform.
